AC Wiring Basics | DoItYourself
wwwyourself››Home AutomationHaving a basic knowledge of AC wiring can help with every instance of home electrical installation. AC stands for alternating current. As opposed to DC or direct current, AC is the kind of electrical power supplied to homes and other buildings (while DC power is primarily used as electrical energy).

wwwboutcircuits››Vol. V - Reference›Color CodesIEC, DC: DC power installations, for example, solar power and computer data centers, use color coding which follows the AC standards. The IEC color standard for DC power cables is listed in Table below, adapted from Table 2, Cook. IEC DC power circuit wiring color codes.
Direct Current (DC) Electrical Circuits by Ron Kurtus
A direct current (DC) electrical circuit consists of a source of DC electricity with a conducting wire going from one of the source terminals to a set of electrical devices and then back to the other terminal, in a complete circuit. A DC circuit is necessary for DC electricity to exist. DC circuits may be in series, parallel or a combination.
Direct current - Wikipedia
Direct current (DC) is the unidirectional flow of electric charge.A battery is a good example of a DC power supply. Direct current may flow in a conductor such as a wire, but can also flow through semiconductors, insulators, or even through a vacuum as in electron or ion beams electric current flows in a constant direction, distinguishing it from alternating current (AC).HistoryVarious definitionsCircuitsApplications
Alternating current - Wikipedia
Alternating current (AC) is an electric current which periodically reverses direction, in contrast to direct current (DC) which flows only in one direction. Alternating current is the form in which electric power is delivered to businesses and residences, and it is the form of electrical energy that consumers typically use when they plugTransmissionAC power supplyEffects at highHistory

AC vs. DCBig Picture: Sources & UsesTracing A WireLabeling and DiagrammingVoilá! The Final ProductOn many boats there are two types of current: alternating (AC) and direct (DC). Serious damage and even electrocution can result from confusing the two. In recently built boats, the two systems should be clearly differentiated and separated, including at the electrical panel. Wires and components associated with each should be distinct and, on newer boats built to American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards, will use standard color-coding. What is the difference between DC and AC wiring? | Yahoo
Nov 18, 2011In Physics we had to construct a cardboard house and fit electrical circuits throughout and for the theory side of this assignment there is a question that states 'Research the wiring of "a real house" and explain the differences between the electrical wiring of your house and the electrical wiring of "a real house".Status: ResolvedAnswers: 8Batteries, fuel cells and solar cells all produce something called direct current (DC). The positive and negative terminals of a battery are always, respectively, positive and negative. Current always flows in the same direction between those two terminals. The power that comes from a power plant, on the other hand, is called alternating current (AC). The direction of the current reverses, or alternates, 60 times per second (in the U.S.) or 50 times per second (in Europe, for example). The power that is available at a wall socket in the United States is 120-volt, 60-cycle AC power. The big advantage that alternating current provides for the power grid is the fact that it is relatively easy to change the voltage of the power, using a device called a transformer. Power companies save a great deal of money this way, using very high voltages to transmit power over long distances.Best answer · 1Direct Current Wiring0This Site Might Help You. DC is direct current and was found by Thomas Edison. The electricity went one way and couldn't travel very far without losing some of its power. Along came the brilliant Nikola Tesla (my most favorite scientist) who works with Thomas for a while with the promise of money for his help. Finally, Tesla comes up to Edison and asks about payment and Edison says he was just joking (Edison is kind of an ***). Tesla ventures out on his own and along the way discovers AC current which is Alternating Current. This electricity moves forwards and back between two points and allows for the current to reach further distances without losing power. Edison gets pissed and tries to make Tesla look stupid by saying AC current is more dangerous than DC current and he travels around electrocuting animals to death. The world fair comes around and Thomas refuses to let Tesla use his light bulbs so Tesla reinvents the light bulb in a couple of months. Tesla FTW! Sorry.s all I know about DC and AC.0Her question is a genuine question not related to anything like a difference between AC and DC current. All she is trying to look for a difference between AC and DC wires. Probably she must have found her answer by now. Difference between both of them lies in a phenomena known as Skin Affect which is evident in Alternating current. Under Skin affect, at higher frequency like 50 or 60 Hz, current only flows mostly in outer part of wires whereas within the internal core current flow is limited due to eddy current resulting from Electromagnetic force thus resulting in increased resistance within the inner diameter of a wire. Skin affect is not an issue in Direct current thus which means no increase in resistance as electromagnetic force is not an issue in direct current. As a result, Dc wires can be thicker, can carry more power as compared to AC wires whose diameter is restricted due to skin affect. Search under ‚ÄúSkin Affect in alternating current, you will find your answers for all what you are looking for. One of the reasons, that Ac wires are curled around its self. I myself was looking for an answer, I just explained as all what I understood till now. I be clearer in little more time.0ac/dc r 2 types of currents . it can flow in any conducting wire(metalic) domestic purpoise the line is supplied with ac voltage.u just make an entry to house from the pole with pair of wires (one for live other for neutral)carry the pair to every room a 3rd wire and ground it entaire house work with the 2 wires only where ever u need points like say light take live line tag connectr it toa on /off switch other end to the lightlike thius complete the wiring to demo just make arrage with mains plusd at the entry instead to pole connection ur curcuit will work for safety u can show or explain the fuse/trip swithes/regulating switches/watthr meter at the entry.0I am surprised google does not know. look up Direct Current, Alternating Current, and generators. another key phrase might be electrical battery (or some such term).0if there is any difference between AC wire and DC wireJul 21, 2010Status: ResolvedExplain the difference between a cycle and a flowDec 01, 2009Status: ResolvedSee more resultsPeople also askHow to wire a three prong 110V AC plug? How to wire a three prong 110V AC plug? How to Wire a Three Prong 110V AC Plug Cut off the old plug with wire cutters and discard,if you are replacing an existing plug.
