DC is direct current and was found by Thomas Edison. The electricity went one way and couldn't travel very far without losing some of its power. Along came the brilliant Nikola Tesla (my most favorite scientist) who works with Thomas for a while with the promise of money for his help. Finally, Tesla comes up to Edison and asks about payment and Edison says he was just joking (Edison is kind of an ***). Tesla ventures out on his own and along the way discovers AC current which is Alternating Current. This electricity moves forwards and back between two points and allows for the current to reach further distances without losing power. Edison gets pissed and tries to make Tesla look stupid by saying AC current is more dangerous than DC current and he travels around electrocuting animals to death. The world fair comes around and Thomas refuses to let Tesla use his light bulbs so Tesla reinvents the light bulb in a couple of months. Tesla FTW! All she is trying to look for a difference between AC and DC wires. Probably she must have found her answer by now. Difference between both of them lies in a phenomena known as Skin Affect which is evident in Alternating current. Under Skin affect, at higher frequency like 50 or 60 Hz, current only flows mostly in outer part of wires whereas within the internal core current flow is limited due to eddy current resulting from Electromagnetic force thus resulting in increased resistance within the inner diameter of a wire. Skin affect is not an issue in Direct current thus which means no increase in resistance as electromagnetic force is not an issue in direct current. As a result, Dc wires can be thicker, can carry more power as compared to AC wires whose diameter is restricted due to skin affect.
